If anyone on the forum hasn't already heard, the show has been canceled, the official word from Fox is that the show will be "capped" at the thirteen episodes this season, and that will be it. As if, that changes it somehow, or makes it seem like it isn't actually canceled... I haven't heard to much from the people involved, aside from Joss apparently remarking that he was going to go home, binge drink, and reflect on things, and Dichen Lachman posted on her twitter that she was told this morning (or yesterday morning, really). Overall, I am not really surprised, considering the poor ratings (and Fox has axed shows with much, much better ratings), and the large hiatus (and frequency) it has.

I'll give Fox credit for keeping it on as long as they did. In the past, they'd pull a show with these ratings within one or two episodes. Of course the Friday Night Death Slot didn't help it much.

Yeah I just read it today. It's not surprising given the network and the ratings. At least it got a better chance then they gave Tru Calling. Maybe they gave enough notice to where Joss could do something for the finale. It does suck as this is the 2nd time Eliza has been in a series on this network that gets better creatively but gets cancelled anyways. The delays because of baseball is something Fox does. I believe they precipitated the death of Firefly and another series or two in that same year by doing that.

I cannot believe I didn't see these replies until now, Phatchopolis, you are quite right about Firefly; frequent preempting and shuffling of the schedule and airing order of the episodes lead to it's demise, pretty interesting considering the following it actually had. The low ratings mostly came from people not knowing then the hell it was going to be on (mostly).

As for Dollhouse...what a great ride it's been, while I am looking forward to "Epitaph Two: Return" I am not looking forward to it being the end.

I don't know if anyone here has heard, but the season one coda episode "Epitaph One" has just (well, yesterday) been nominated for a Hugo Award for "Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form"

For anyone that wishes to know, the second season of Dollhouse will be released on DVD/Blu-ray, from what various sources say, on October 12 for region one. Apparently, the UK will see it released in September. Special features across the board include deleted scenes, and interview type of extras. The DVD will have two audio commentaries, while the Blu-rays will have three.

Thanks for the info. A great series and at least the fans got closure this time. As I tweeted to the lady herself "Echo was epic".

I have another update regarding the release and this time, a proper listing of (what is currently known as) the extra features for the second season set of Dollhouse. As I mentioned, the features will be the same on the DVD release, and the Blu-ray release with the exceptions notarized.

    DVD/Blu-ray
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Outtakes
  • "Defining Moments"
  • "Looking Back"
  • "Vows" audio commentary by series creator, Joss Whedon
  • "Belonging" audio commentary by writer Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.
  • Exclusive comic

    Blu-ray
  • "Getting Closer" audio commentary by exec producer and writer Tim Minear.

Note, once again, the Blu-ray will contain more extras then the single audio commentary I mentioned, it will be the same as the DVD release plus this extra commentary. I wont reveal too much on the comic due to spoilers (though... the topic does say spoilers could be in here)
